LCoS TECHNOLOGY (and why it's better)

LCoS screen

LCoS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) imagers are selected over competing DLP and 3LCD technology for premium home-theater projector for several reasons. First pixelation is eliminated due to both higher imager resolution and minimum spacing between pixels. Second the "screen door" or "meshing" effect is eliminated because LCOS pixels have smoother edges compared to the sharp mirror edges of micro-mirror designs such as DLP. Thirdly, the 3-panel LCOS design delivers red, green and blue colors (RGB) simultaneously onto the screen whereas DLP employs a sequential color-wheel and delivers color sequentially (for example Red 25% on-time, Green 50% on time, Blue 25% on time) which reduces color gamut and saturation.  This occurs because as for example when green is being delivered, red and blue are off.  Fourthly, LCOS eliminates the color wheel which means the elimination of rainbow artifacts, eye-strain, and headaches as sometimes occurs with DLP projectors.
